Uploading Binary Files

Postby greg » Fri Oct 17, 2003 12:51 am

When I upload a binary file i.e. a Word document and then try to view it the document always comes back in ascii not binary. What might cause this problem? Thanks.

TrackStudio 2.7 Enterprise, Resin 2.0.4, Solaris 9

For browsers I have tried IE and Mozilla on Windows and Mozilla on Solaris. All browsers gave me the same result.

Yes, I think that this is problem with incorrect MIME type on TrackStudio/resin side. Please try upgrade to TrackStudio 2.7.6 and resin 2.1.7+.

Some workaround - please try save file, right click->Save target as...

PS. What extensions your files have ?

We are using TrackStudio 2.7.5. We will upgrade to 2.7.6 and to the current version of Resin.

I tried that, but the document still came back in ascii. I think for our workaround for now we will use only ASCII/HTML documents.

I was working with a Word document, a .doc

Hello. I am revisiting this problem we first encountered a few months ago.

We have upgraded to the newest version of resin, 3.0.4. The problem still exists. When I upload a binary file, I cannot retrieve it in binary form.

Suggestions?
Thank you.

OK, I just download Resin 3.0.4 and test it.

Pity, but I still can't duplicate this bug. My configuration:
1) WinXP Home, JDK 1.4.2, Resin 3.0.4, HSQL
2) TrackStudio 2.8.2
3) Try both with IE 6SP1 and NN7.1
4) Try small (several KB) and large (3+ MB files)

I have one idea: please upload some small binary file, then download them and send me both. Is file in "upload" directory damaged (i need to know is bug occurs during uploading or downloading) ?

PS. One known problem: you should not use download accelerators, such as Reget/FlashGet/etc. I know that some of them can download damaged file when you stop downloading in the middle and resume then later. Possible this is problem with some servlet containers only, I don't know.
