What is the maximum size of the Memo custom field?
And can it be extended?

It's should be 1800 chars, no easy way to extend it.
But task name and description can hold very long strings (30 kb ok).

sorry to dig up an old post, but has this number changed through the revisions to TrackStudio and does the 1800 include the html markup?


I have an odd situation where someone wrote text in a memo field and saved it but now if I open the task and chose "edit", clicking "save" gives me the "fill in the user defined custom fields" message. I only have 1 custom field and it still throws the error when I make that field not required. I made a new item using the same workflow and selected/copied/pasted the memo field contents from the first into the second and it throws the same error. if I delete a sentence or two off the end of the memo contents, it saves without error (and if I delete the first paragraph, it saves the last paragraph without error).

I viewed the HTML source and there are 2200 characters.

We have not touched this limitation in TrackStudio 4. Which version do you use now ?

We're using 3.5.56. I looked at validate.js file and it seems to be checking that the length of the field in the browser is less than the internal limit for the datatype. When it's displayed in the browser however, it seems to be using HTML for all of the formatting (including entity codes). When it gets back to the database however, the entity codes are replaced with the actual characters (so the length in the browser is more than the length in the database).

This still doesn't explain why the person could save the item initially but couldn't after the UI recalled the data from the database (unless different validation rules apply to the initial write than a subsequent update -- or the formatting markup on freshly-entered text doesn't match the formatting code generated when the data is read from the database).

I was able to get the material saved by having the owner of the task copy the contents of the memo box to notepad and then paste it back into the Edit form for the task information. The owner's concern was having the data captured (not so much that it was nicely formatted).
