Filter suggestion (maybe for TS 4.0)

Postby victor » Wed Nov 19, 2003 11:08 pm

Hello,

I am thinking about some function-filters (what is this?? you said)... Imagine... I want to filter all finalized tasks (tasks that are in 'Finish' state). But I really want to see the finalized task submitted by user-x where user-x some times is 'peter' other times is 'john' other is 'marcus',...
Now I have to define one filter for every user that I want to see or define a filter sorted by submitter and go to the group of task submitted by my interest user.
Maybe could be interesting for the future made a more complex filter system where we can leave fields selected but with undefined values (fields that appear when you activate this filter and you have to instantiate to defined values)

Thanks,

Yes, we already have something like this for keyword search. Its not so complex to implement it for other fields, but imagine Subtasks tab with multiple input boxes :-)

So, possible we'll implement it, but we need good visual representation for this feature.

Yes, I have thought about it:

This parametric filters could show a popup when was selected in the filters list. In this popup the user could set all the parametrized fields and press a go button.

I not like idea with popup too much because
1) Some browsers/software disable them and user need some additional step to reenable-it.
2) This popup will appear when user open new task.

I think that we, possible, should have some "parameters" button. But in this case we can have different parameters for different filters and need apply params in 2 steps:
1) apply filter without params
2) user click "Params" button and fill params.

Note that parametrized filters should work even without params (for e-mail notification, for example).

Another idea - if you define some filter parameter as "parametrized" (check box on) - you'll see data entry control in the subtasks header. This can be good, but I afraid it can be too complex (imagine 3-line date chooser on subtasks tab).

We'll think about this feature.

Your solution is better than mine.

About subtasks filters and e-mail notification filters based in my experience I have doubts about if really they are the same thing:

- None of my notification filters are useful for subtasks filter intents.
- None of my subtasks filters are useful for notification intents.
- I'd prefer that notification filters were hiden in the subtasks filters list.
- I'd prefer that subtasks and notification filters was in different sections.

Then I am not sure about the use of e-mail notification parametrized filters.
