Am using 2.7.4 - when I create or edit a user, and try to set their default project, it doesnt save it. It just always sticks with the default.

This is not a bug, this is a feature
When you set default project TrackStudio add this user to the ACL (you can check it in Task Management->Access Control).

So, this is not a field, this is tool to quick add users to the access control list.

But I agree, this feature is not very intuitive and we'll remove it in the next version.

Hmm, but I just understand what you need, we'll implement this feature in the next version
